Team Mollysport @ Kinnekulle Ring! :)

Spring is here, and finally we race again!
Going in to my 3rd season of racing, it is a certain sign of spring when my heart pounds faster and the race car is almost ready. Viscom started decorating the Altezza yesterday, and it’s amazing to see the change into a racecar. Next Thursday we have planned our first test and that same evening we leave for Kinnekulle, Sweden for our first race. 2 weeks after this the Norwegian Championship starts at Vålerbanen.
Of course I have ambitions about winning this year, the only thing that can stop that is me. The Altezza proved it’s greatness when it won a race and the championship final last year, and with a tire sponsor for this year there is really nothing standing in the way of great results. I have also been working hard at the gym with my trainer and coach, Nils Petter Olsen. With hard training up to 3 days a week since November, I feel in good shape for the coming season.

For the first time in 54 years....they postponed the Daytona 500.
On Sunday febuary the 19th I boarded a plane with my boyfriend Anders which was going to take me one step further to the great american race. We stayed for 5 days in a great resort in Orlando and visited Disney Universal studios, Epcot, Sea World and dozens of outlet stores! The weather varied quite a lot and on one day we got in the middle of a huge lightning and thunder storm! Mad!
Our beautiful view from where we stayed in Orlando, Mariott's Grande Vista.

At the Shamu show at seaworld, took my breath away...

Of course the highlight for Anders was that NASA were sending up a satelite for the US Navy while we were at the Kennedy Space Center. I have to admit, it was pretty cool!

On friday night we were finally heading for the main reason of the trip, the Daytona 500. We stayed at a great hotel the Plaza Ocean Club.
This is the view from our room, only a 5 minute drive from Daytona International Speedway:
On saturday we decided to visit the Speedway and check out the crazy things going on there. We came about 30 minutes before the Nationwide race started and I was excited about the fact that I would be on the outside of the fence listening to race. Danica had pole position in this race so it was very exciting! About 5 minutes before the race started Anders said to me, maybe we should see this race since the weather forecast looks bad for tomorrow. The tickets were quite expensive, but the mere thought of having to go back home without seeing a race was pretty terrifying so I agreed. And it was amazing! I stood up for almost 2 hours and cheered everytime Danica passed us. Unfortunatley she crashed and had to sit out 48 laps while they fixed her car. I left the speedway that day SO unbelivably happy!
What an amazing place!

They day finally came...It was sunday I was so ready for the Daytona 500. Unfortunatley the weather wasn't.

Toyota is huge in Nascar! They also had the official pace car for that week!
We sat down to watch the driver presentation, and we were all praying for a miracle..

The heavens opened up and near 200.000 people had to seek cover underneath the stands. I didn't dare look at people because I knew that most of them could come back tomorrow, and nobody was positive about what was happening...but i couldn't come back..

I went out to the fence and stared at the track, praying that the rain would stop...After 4 hours of waiting it stopped and I heard the jet blowers on the track. I really thought it was going to happen, but after another hour and some more rain the message came, "the race is postponed until noon tomorrow". That was when our flight was leaving Orlando and back to Norway. It was a fact! For the first time in 54 years the Daytona 500 was postponed. I was absolutley heart broken..

After being wet and cold for 5 hours and no race I was glad i had love and support :)
Our tickets didn't go to waste though! Atle Gulbrandsen was coming to Orlando on monday afternoon, so I left him a ticket at the airport!
There is no doubt that I have to go back to acutally see the Daytona 500, I just hope it wont take too long.
Thanks for reading :)

2011 - a big step out of the comfort zone!
Since there are a lot of english people who also visit my website, this New Year entry will be in my first langauge...English :)
2011 has gone by so fast, and I can say that the bad luck from this year's racing season is put far behind me. Early this year I decided that I would step well out of my comfort zone and push the limit not only behind the wheel. My car has given me some grief this year, and I never really felt that I could push the limit on the track. The rest of the team are really my heroes. No matter how dark it looks and how down we could get, we NEVER gave up! That's what it is all about, because at some point your luck turns. And towards the end of 2011, our luck really turned around.
In October I really pushed myself beyond what I thought I was capable of! I commentated day summary's of Rally Spain live on Norwegian sports tv. The first evening I did it I felt so much emotion. My heart was about to jump out of my chest, my mouth so dry that I wasn't sure I could speak and I really didn't think I could go through with it. I said to myself, just get through this first time and it will feel so much better, otherwise you will regret it for the rest of your life. I got got through it nervously, but I still got through it! And I got through the next 2 days aswell. This really did a lot for me, and has given me so much confidence to do other "scary" things. The best about it all is that I have been asked to commentate more in 2012!
The Norwegian car association NAF have also contributed to pushing me over the edge! I was called up and asked if i would go on live national radio and television talking about road safety, especially the amout of young people getting killed on the roads. I didn't have much time to prepare, but it went well! It went so quickly that I didn't remember much afterwards. :)
Before the annual NAF Motorsport christmas party at Geilo I was asked to hold a speech after dinner. This was going to be my first speech EVER, so for 2 weeks I barely slept and I must have written the speech 50 times along with some help from my dad :) Getting up in front of everyone, reminded me of starting my first race or the first time I commentated, but it is the feeling right after that is AMAZING!! A good piece of advice, just say yes to things you find scary, it might change your life.
Other great memories from 2011 are all the great races with the team, driving a Subaru rallycar at Gatebil on Ice, driving a F1 car in Sweden, reporting for crosscart, racing and rally, having a huge bus at the main Gatebil event, winning a trip to Daytona to see NASCAR +++ I LOVE MY LIFE :)

A owe so much to all of you who believe in me, especially the team and my sponsors! Many of my sponsors have been with me for 3 years, and they continue to stay with me. We have a lot of exciting things going on these days and I cant wait to see what 2012 will bring!
I wish all of you a Happy New Year and all the best in 2012!
Molly

Så glad blir man av å trene!!!
Takk for at du leser! :)
